Introduction

Founded in 1928, and restored and reconstructed in Dec., 1984, the School of Management, Xi’an Jiaotong University is one of the earliest management schools in China. It is among the first batch of schools in China to offer the professional degree programs such as MBA and EMBA. It now has two national first-level key disciplines,i.e.Management Science and Engineering and Business Administration, and doctoral program and postdoctoral research station of the above two disciplines.

Since 2002, the two disciplines namely Management Science and Engineering and Business Administration consecutively ranked among the top places for four times in the discipline appraisal by the Ministry of Education. In 2011, the school was accredited by AACSB and maintained AACSB Business Accreditation in 2016. SOM was the first business school in mainland China to be awarded with the five-star rating in QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) Stars for Global Business Schools in 2016. Management Science and Engineering and Business Administration were both listed the national-level "Double First-Class” disciplines in 2017 and 2022 respectively.

Faculty

The school has 117 full-time faculty members including 65 full professors, 34 associate professors and 18 assistant professors, among whom 97% hold PhD degrees. The school is also home to 15 research fellows ( hold a PhD degree) including 6 associate research fellows and 9 research assistants. The said faculty members include 1 member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 2 winners of China National Funds for Distinguished Young Scientists, 13 chosen in "National Talents Program", 2 selected in "Outstanding Youth Science Foundation" 1 National Experts with Outstanding Contributions, 18 scholars who won the Support Program for New Century Excellent Talents administered by the Ministry of Education, 1 national-level teaching group, 1 Innovation Research Group, 1 chief expert of National Science and Technology Support Program and 4 chief experts of major projects of National Social Science Fund, 1 scholar who is the leader of a major project of national social science Fund, 1 Shaanxi Province Youth Science and Technology New Star, 1 experts who has made extraordinary contribution at the provincial level and 5 Distinguished Teachers of Shaanxi Province.

Education Programs

The school provides undergraduate program, master program, doctorate program, MBA, EMBA, MPAcc, MEM, engineering master program, and other senior management training programs. At present, there are 567 undergraduates, 232 full-time master degree candidates, 457 doctoral students, over 3400 students attending professional degree programs and more than 200 international master’s and doctoral candidates from 25 countries and regions.   Until now, the school has cultivated more than 30,000 senior management talents.

Departments

There are 7 academic departments: Department of Operations Management & Industrial Engineering, Department of Information Systems and Business Analytics, Department of Management Science, Department of Organization Management, Department of Marketing, Department of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Strategy, and Department of Accounting and Finance. Now we have Experiment Center for Management Teaching & Learning, XJTU (Demo-Center at State Level for Experiment Teaching) ,Virtual Simulation Experiment Teaching Center for Emergency Management and Decision-Making, Research Centre on Chinese Management (Soft Science Research Base of Ministry of Education), Key Laboratory of Process Control & Efficiency Engineering, Ministry of Education, Collaborative Innovation center of Pilot Reform Exploration and Assessment ,  Shaanxi Engineering Research Center for Process Mining of Manufacturing Services, Shaanxi Engineering Research Center of Medical and Health Big Data, Digital Economy Development Research Center in Xi'an, China, Soft Science Research Base for Intelligent Manufacture Management in Shaanxi. Since its foundation, the school has completed more than 100 projects including national key scientific research programs, national Scientific Fund major projects, natural Science Foundation projects and National Funds for Distinguished Young Scientists. It has gained 3 National Science & Technology Progress Prizes, 4 National Teaching Achievement Prizes, 1 China Population Prize, more than 200 scientific and technology prizes awarded by the National Science and Technology Ministry, Ministry of Education, and prizes at provincial and municipal levels. There are thousands of papers published on top international journals home and abroad and issued on international academic conferences. It has composed and published more than 200 various academic monographs and textbooks.

Internationalization

The internationalization strategy of School of Management has experienced remarkable evolution from version1.0 to 3.0. From “Bringing In & Sending Out” to “Catch up and Surpass” till now “Management Education Going Global”, the school is making unremitting efforts towards a new mode of management education exploration and to build an international brand of Chinese management education. The school has conducted a series of long-term and friendly relationships with more than 30 international top universities such as MIT, Cambridge, University of Texas at Arlington, University of Alberta, Canada, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, City University of New York, the National University of Singapore, France SKEMA business school, University of Novi Sad, Serbia, Chung Cheng University, Hsinchu Taiwan Jiaotong University. Inspired by the " University Alliance of the New Silk Road " initiated by Xi 'an Jiaotong University, the school initiated to establish the Management Schools Sub-Alliance of University Alliance of the Silk Road (MSA-UASR) in 2015. At present, 15 colleges and universities from 7 countries have joined the sub-alliance as founding members.
